12/07: from Elaine Kell
"I just received a phone call from John Swallow. Aunt Marj passed away two
years ago at age 100 after a severe bout of pneumonia. She had been having
pneumonia off and on for about five years before she died. And each time it
was more severe than the last and took longer for her to recover.

John says she had stayed active right to the end. She continued her
painting and drove herself to the local senior center to play bridge,
ping-pong and pool. She actually played tennis with John when she was 95.

He is now living in the house in Amherst. It was empty for the five years
that Aunt Marj lived with him, with only an occasional visit to it and had
fallen into disrepair. He's been very busy trying to get things fixed. As
he's still working, it's taking him longer than he likes to get the work
done.

His son Dan is now 26 years old - doesn't seem possible does it?"

Per Elaine Whitehead Kell, 11-Jan-2009:
In a letter from Alice Detrick, Wally's second wife, she said that Wally passed away on Feb. 14 (no year given on letter; it may have been in the newspaper clipping I gave you) while they were on tour in Mexico City. The American Embassy helped her with mortician, etc. and since she had no idea what arrangements might have been made for his burial, she had his ashes sent to Michigan where HER family had a plot and "they will be held there for future instructions." I have no idea if those instructions were ever given. Uncle Wally's ashes may still be sitting on a shelf in some funeral parlor in Michigan. I'm sure that Alice is no longer alive because Wally died quite some time ago and she was not a young woman at that time.
