Per Richie Nov.2008: well-to-do; estranged from family.
Per Penny Tuttle Sencer Nov. 2011:
"Uncle Gene was not a twin. Apparently his mother was a friend of the family who could not care for him, so Bob's mother adopted him, either formally or informally, declared his birthday to be the same as Bob's, his last name to be Monroe, and then raised the boys as twins."
"No one is quite sure who Gene's father was, but his mother was a friend of Blanche's sister."

Per Richie:
Blanche's mother was a Scots witch. Blanche was a witch and a Methodist. He says she could summon frogs and bees. She lived with Richie's family until she stabbed Jerry and had to leave. Richie was about 8. She moved to Deposit NY and lived on her own there.
Per Penny Tuttle Sencer Nov. 2011: "Apparently Blanche was never married to Mr. Monroe. She arrived in Deposit with Bob and Gene and no husband, but with the name Monroe instead of Beers. She told Jan that Bob was illegitimate. It is possible that Bob's father also impregnated Eugene's mother, but no one knows for sure. It should be noted that apparently Bob had an aunt on his father's side who kept in touch with Blanche and she spelled her name Munro. According to Jan, Bob's father took off for the West Indies and was never seen again."
