Leatherwork
We do custom leatherwork, especially for archers. Here are a few pictures, to give you some ideas. We hope to provide patterns and instructions soon on the Do-It-Yourself page...
Shown, clockwise from top left, are:
- A baronial coronet for field/casual wear; photo taken when it was made in November 2004. The simple decoration is from the recipient's heraldry.
- Susan's personal quivers for her arrows and crossbow bolts, and her bracer (arm guard). She loves Celtic knotwork, and her heraldic colors are green and silver (as if you couldn't tell from these pages.) The archer's tassel is great for cleaning off arrows which land in the muck -- hopefully, a rare occurrence! The back quiver and bracer were about 12 years old when this photo was taken; the bolt quiver was about 10 years old; all are holding up nicely.
- A bracer with carved and embossed heraldic decoration, made in 1995; photo taken in 2005.
Shown below are examples of some leatherwork done by three of Susan's students. Top row, left: Rhonwen finished her own back quiver and bracer in 2005; the cuff of the quiver is decorated with her heraldry, and the bracer has two dolphins. Top row, right: Aleksei made his back quiver, bolt quiver and bracer in early 2006; all are decorated with knotwork and the quivers bear a silver griffin from his heraldry. Bottom row, left: Eva finished her own back quiver and bracer in April 2007, decorating both with a simple celtic knot.
